… and another friendly hello!

I hereby declare my debut to this blog and also th the game-audio-world. I’m Philipp, the latest entry to the Golden Tricycle Team and i’m here to complete the audoivisual experience of CLARK the game.

Düdelüdeldidü!™

In this blog i’ll post about the overall layout of how the games audio works, as well as the details. We here at the Golden Tricycle think that the process of designing a game becomes more interesting for the audience as well as for ourselves if we open it up the most we can. We would like to share our experiences with an interested public, to discuss different aproaches and really get in touch with other peoples thoughts. So feel heavily invited to leave comments and share your thoughts, whatever they are!

A machine that whistles

When i arrived at the Golden Tricycle, the first thing i said to my fellow co-designers is that i find it dead and uninteresting to have the game just play some two or three tracks in the background. I wanted to create an experience where the sound of the world you are wandering in is constantly shifting between music and the ambient-sounds of a factory (since CLARK takes place in a factory site). The machines you hear become the music of the game. I want this to happen smoothly while you explore the levels and to adapt to the players motion. I want to have an interactive game driving audio environment that’s more than just a soundtrack, a world that has an immersive and appealing sound, that shifts to music and backwards and thus rounds off the in-world experience.

Soon i will blog about the technical side of things here, how i set out to do all the stuff i just talked about…

That’s all for now, folks!

Philipp

I will reguarly post about the progress of this aspect of our game development.

CLARK is developed using the Unity engine. This amazing tool provides a framework for realizing complex 3D graphics, game physics and audio. It does pretty much all the low level tasks for us, so we are free to concentrate on the game mechanics. Using this software we are also able to develop cross-platform. CLARK is going to be released on iOS and Android. I think we will also do a stand-alone for MacOS and Windows – if we finish the game that is…

The red caterpillar on the image below is what I am currently fighting. He is a nasty laser bot, an enemy which you’ll first meet in third stage of our test build. I have just given him enough brains to seek and destroy Clark quickly – well, I found myself not being able to escape this guy. That’s how it goes with children… We will reduce his power to fit the entry levels after we let him loose on our first testers just once.

Time to say hello!

We are three berlin-based guys who joined forces to develop our first video game. Currently we are working on CLARK, a grid base 3D adventure game for mobile devices. CLARK combines complex spacial puzzles with arcade style action elements. We’re working on it for half a year now, and are proud to finally present our first set of playable levels. This Alpha features three stages with a variety of puzzles, challanging enemy AI, parametric sound design and dynamic 3D graphics. It serves as a proof of concept for gameplay, controls and atmosphere. As we are rookies in this field of work we are heavily dependent on your suggestions and criticism to improve our game. We want to open up the design process and invite you to take part in this exciting endevour. We are starting the feedback sessions these days and are anxious for your input.

Your comments are greatly appreciated!
